About a two-hour drive or 20 minute plane journey North West of Nairobi.
Lake Naivasha is best known for being one of the main Rift Valley lakes and also for its infamous and extravagant 'Happy Valley’ parties in the colonial days. The area has a wonderful climate with hot sunny days and cool evenings. Due to the altitude there is very little humidity. This freshwater lake is 8 miles across with much of the shore fringed by thick papyrus and surrounded by yellow barked Acacia and is still well known as a world-class birding destination. Giraffes, buffalo, hippo and antelope still live around its shores.
Hippo Point sits between Lake Naivasha and the much smaller Oloiden Lake, set on its western shore. This is even more beautiful and often has flamingo around its shores. Animals are constantly feeding on its grassy banks and walks through the acacia and down to the lakes edge should not be missed. It is here that the beauty of the surrounding hills and peace and tranquillity of the area comes into its own.
