laikipia

Laikipia District is one of the seventy-one districts of Kenya, located on the Equator in the Rift Valley Province. This is a huge and varied region but in general terms it is a hot, dry, remote and very beautiful landscape varying from river valleys to acacia scrub, forest and sparse grassland.  It benefits from a very low density of tourist if you are selective. It is not a National Park so allows for various different types of experience including fly camping, walking, camel and horse safaris. An ever-growing amount of the land in Laikipia is being conserved through Eco Tourism either through private or community run ventures. It doesn’t have the concentration of wildlife that the Maasai Mara does but it is still plentiful and in addition to its successful Rhino sanctuaries it also has several packs of the rare and elusive African wild dogs, Grevy’s zebra and reticulated giraffe. It is quickly growing in reputation as a highlight for a safari.
